John Brunner Discussing Science Fiction

I am typically annoyed when authors who write stories that are clearly science fiction try to claim that they are not writing science fiction. This is beacuse of the assumption that there is something wrong with writing science fiction. This isn't exactly what John Brunner is doing here though. Instead, he is saying that the differance is meaningless. I would say that science fiction is a setting rather than a genre myself.
There is still some arrogence in this talk, but being an author requires a bit of arrogence. You have to believe that you can create something worthwhile and write it at least as good as something worthwhile. John Brunner clearly has at least some of this arrogence and it shows both in this and his work. Still it is worth reading and listening to because he makes good points.
